Richard Philip's Story
Life
Family tragedy just before high school gave me a 'need to know' at deeper levels than my parents. Two weeks after my father died, Billy Graham hit Toronto and I got detoured into fundamentalism. 'Served' four years in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, two years in theological 'cemetery' and one year in a linguistics MA at UofT. The SCM and Buckminster Fuller finally got me out of religion and channeled my 'need to know' into a need to identify and solve the biggest human problem of my lifetime. This project eventually resulted in the biggest website on work-sharing in English, Timesizing.com.

inar at MIT, I applied linguistic, ecological and historical insights to design a series of improving economic cores. The first part of this approach ('trimming the workweek, not the workforce, and markets') got polished and publicized in three races against the Kennedy's for US Congress. Had a one-on-one debate with Joe Kennedy in '96, dozens of great debates in '98 when Joe quit and ten Dems jumped in to replace him, but in 2000 Teddy wouldn't debate so I actually got more media for NOT running in 2002 (1/15/2002 Wall Street Journal, front page, 'Born to run?').
Currently still pondering how to take temporary work-sharing and permanent 'timesizing' to the next level.
